Hyperion Entertainment releases Hotfix for AmigaOS 3.2.2

Brussels – April 23, 2023
Hyperion Entertainment is providing a Hotfix for the recently released AmigaOS 3.2.2 update.

Critical bugs were found soon after the AmigaOS 3.2.2 release which need to be addressed promptly.

The Hotfix 3.2.2.1 comes as two separate and distinct installers.

  • The first features an updated installation archive, for those who have not yet installed the AmigaOS 3.2.2 update.This includes the changes from the hotfix, so you don't need to install it afterwards. Please follow the instructions as described at the enclosed "HowToInstall" text.
  • The second is a smaller installation archive, to be used with an existing AmigaOS 3.2.2 system. The hotfix adf should be used which can be found under the "ADFs/Hostfix" folder.

The following problems are addressed by this Hotfix:

  • Slowness of ReAction programs using page.gadget (part of the layout.gadget file);
  • GIF-datatype incorrectly refused to run on plain 68000 Amigas, e.g. Amiga 600 ;
  • Rendering and undo issues in IconEdit, if used with CyberGraphX;
  • Other small fixes in IconEdit and TextEdit.

You can download Hotfix 3.2.2.1 for AmigaOS 3.2 here.

We wish to thank the users that quickly drew our attention to these issues. While we are aware of other reported problems, which have yet to be addressed, we still feel the need to release this Hotfix now.

Hyperion Entertainment CVBA obtains key victory in US Federal Court

Brussels  – April 2, 2023

Hyperion Entertainment is pleased to announce it obtained a sweeping victory in the US District Court of the Western District of Washington at Seattle in the litigation brought against Hyperion by Cloanto Corporation and the Amiga Parties (Amiga Inc., Itec, LLC and Amino Development Corporation).

The Court dismissed all of the remaining claims in this proceeding filed by Cloanto Corporation and the Amiga Parties against Hyperion Entertainment and found entirely in favor of Hyperion Entertainment by granting Hyperion's Motion for Summary Judgment as to all counts.

The instant case was initiated against Hyperion Entertainment on December 14, 2017 (!) when plaintiff Cloanto Corporation (later joined by the Amiga Parties) filed suit against Hyperion in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York alleging Hyperion exceeded the rights granted to it by the 2009 Settlement Agreement thereby resulting in copyright and trademark infringement.

Hyperion Entertainment wishes to thank all of the AmigaOS 3.x and 4.x development teams as well as our beta-testers for continuing their work during the many years of litigation.

During these many years Hyperion Entertainment was always keen to bring this litigation to a negotiated outcome and still, to this day, remains of the belief that an amicable resolution between the parties bringing all remaining litigation to a close, would be in the interest of the Amiga Community as a whole.

A copy of the Court’s order of March 30, 2023 can be found here.

New Update 2 of AmigaOS 3.2 available for download NOW

Brussels – March 3, 2023

Hyperion Entertainment CVBA is proud to provide the second free update of AmigaOS 3.2.

This new update demonstrates the developers' continued dedication to ensure that AmigaOS 3.2 is the most capable and most stable operating system ever for 68K based Amigas.

If you do not already own a copy of AmigaOS 3.2, there is now even more reason to get one from your favourite dealer!

The team of developers and testers have worked tirelessly ever since the release of AmigaOS 3.2.1 on fixing bugs and implementing a number of new features.

The highlights of the new features and fixes of AmigaOS 3.2.2 are as follows:

  • TextEdit has seen several improvements to its extension interface, and has gained an "About" menu item;
  • “Showconfig” now shows 68060 revision;
  • “IconEdit” now notifies the user if someone else modifies the icon file that is being edited. And pressing the help key brings up help. The whole color handling of colorful icons has been improved so icons can no longer degrade. Users may end up in a situation wherein it will look worse than on a perfect display, but it will not degrade the icon. As such the dreaded "downgrade" dialog doesn't happen anymore, but in some cases “IconEdit” will open on a separate screen;
  • “Kickstart” can now boot with earlier Workbench and icon library versions if they are present on the boot volume. This allows for installation of the ROM whilst retaining the ability to boot any AmigaOS version from 3.1 to 3.9, before installation of AmigaOS 3.2 on a volume;
  • The sketchboard.gadget has seen some speed improvements, that should be noticeable when using IconEdit;
  • The listbrowser.gadget has had a complete overhaul, making the file much smaller, and a bit faster;
  • The layout.gadget has had a complete overhaul;
  • The window.class has had a complete overhaul;
  • The RAM disk has had a complete overhaul so it is much less likely to cause issues;
  • Improved “Locale “support
  • Updated version of boards.library
