Hyperion Entertainment confirms exclusive rights to AmigaOS

Brussels, December 31, 2017

Hyperion Entertainment CVBA was informed by US counsel that Cloanto has filed a claim in New York State in an attempt to invalidate and diminish the exclusive rights granted to Hyperion Entertainment on the basis of its settlement agreement with the Amiga Parties of September 30, 2009 which was confirmed by a stipulated judgment of December 14, 2009 by the US District Court, Western District at Seattle in case CV-07-0631.

Hyperion Entertainment regrets that its attempts to start discussions to reach a settlement with Cloanto - which were re-affirmed by a face to face meeting between the principals of both companies in Neuss, Germany during the Amiga 32 event - have failed and that Cloanto has once again decided to resort to legal action to deprive Hyperion of the rights granted to it.

Hyperion Entertainment is perplexed by the recent litigious attitude of Cloanto in view of the fact that for many months Cloanto offered AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition for sale together with its emulation package and collected commissions on the sale of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition.

Hyperion Entertainment has never changed its position on the extent of its rights since the settlement of September 30, 2009 and has distributed several versions of AmigaOS with AmigaOS 4.1 for backwards compatibility purposes.

Hyperion has moreover always acknowledged and accepted the pre-existing limited license granted to Cloanto to distribute certain versions of AmigaOS as part of an emulation package as specifically set out in its settlement agreement with the Amiga Parties.

Hyperion Entertainment nonetheless hereby reaffirms unequivocally that on the basis of the aforementioned stipulated judgment it has the worldwide exclusive right to distribute and sublicense AmigaOS on a standalone basis or bundled with hardware (OEM license), either on a physical medium (such as a ROM or DVD) or electronically (digital download).

The same applies for obvious reasons to any improvements and upgrades of AmigaOS for both 68K and PPC which Hyperion Entertainment has released and is planning to release.

Whilst we deeply regret that once again substantial resources will need to be redirected away from development to litigation, Hyperion Entertainment has every intention to vigorously defend its rights in court and by doing so, defend the rights of our licensees.

Nevertheless, Hyperion Entertainment wishes all its current, past and future customers and partners a Happy New Year 2018!

New Update 2 of AmigaOS 3.2 available for download NOW

Brussels – March 3, 2023

Hyperion Entertainment CVBA is proud to provide the second free update of AmigaOS 3.2.

This new update demonstrates the developers' continued dedication to ensure that AmigaOS 3.2 is the most capable and most stable operating system ever for 68K based Amigas.

If you do not already own a copy of AmigaOS 3.2, there is now even more reason to get one from your favourite dealer!

The team of developers and testers have worked tirelessly ever since the release of AmigaOS 3.2.1 on fixing bugs and implementing a number of new features.

The highlights of the new features and fixes of AmigaOS 3.2.2 are as follows:

  • TextEdit has seen several improvements to its extension interface, and has gained an "About" menu item;
  • “Showconfig” now shows 68060 revision;
  • “IconEdit” now notifies the user if someone else modifies the icon file that is being edited. And pressing the help key brings up help. The whole color handling of colorful icons has been improved so icons can no longer degrade. Users may end up in a situation wherein it will look worse than on a perfect display, but it will not degrade the icon. As such the dreaded "downgrade" dialog doesn't happen anymore, but in some cases “IconEdit” will open on a separate screen;
  • “Kickstart” can now boot with earlier Workbench and icon library versions if they are present on the boot volume. This allows for installation of the ROM whilst retaining the ability to boot any AmigaOS version from 3.1 to 3.9, before installation of AmigaOS 3.2 on a volume;
  • The sketchboard.gadget has seen some speed improvements, that should be noticeable when using IconEdit;
  • The listbrowser.gadget has had a complete overhaul, making the file much smaller, and a bit faster;
  • The layout.gadget has had a complete overhaul;
  • The window.class has had a complete overhaul;
  • The RAM disk has had a complete overhaul so it is much less likely to cause issues;
  • Improved “Locale “support
  • Updated version of boards.library

Alinea Computer offers Quake 2 as a digital version for AmigaOS 4.x

Brussels – April 17, 2024

Alinea Computer has taken over the distribution of Quake 2 for AmigaOS 4. The first Amiga version of Quake 2 dates back to 2002 by Hyperion Entertainment and has been continued and greatly improved in this tradition. Steffen Häuser is responsible for the port and has implemented numerous improvements. In addition to support for various mission CDs and mods, GL4ES/Warp3DNova support and playing soundtracks as OGG Vorbis have also been implemented.

The AmigaOS 4 version is available for download from Alinea Computer.

It should be noted that to run the AmigaOS 4 version of Quake 2, the data files of the PC version are required. These can be purchased at a reasonable price, for example, via Steam. Freely available mods and mission CDs are already available on Aminet.

Features and system requirements at a glance:

Features:

  • AmigaOS 4 native version
  • GL4ES, MiniGL, and Software Renderer
  • full support for mission CDs "The Reckoning" and "Ground Zero"
  • Ports of the unofficial mission CD "Zaero" and about 50 multiplayer mods will be released soon on os4depot/Aminet, these downloads require the new version of Quake 2
  • AmigaInput support
  • CD audio works again (in the old version only compatible with older CD drives)
  • As an alternative to CD audio, Ogg Vorbis files can be played as a soundtrack, in this case, the music files from this version are preinstalled with a Steam/Gog install
  • Installer now works with both PC CD version of Quake 2 and with the Steam and Gog Classic version, using the Steam/Gog Classic installer will also install the two mission CDs. We recommend using the Steam version for easy installation.
  • As an alternative to the .cin intros, the game now also supports .avi and .mpeg files (a script to convert the .ogv files of the Steam version is included on the ISO, if you want the higher resolution video files)

System Requirements:

  • Software: AmigaOS 4.1 and the data files from Steam, Gog, or CD version.
  • Hardware: At least 150 MHz PowerPC, 32 MB RAM, Graphics card, at least
  • 1 GB of free hard disk space, A1222 is currently not supported, game can also be played on QEmu and UAE PPC
